Factcheck.org strikes back

Folks, we need to get pushing with this "McCain lies" meme.  Even the notoriously conservative (and by that I mean "careful and cautious" not "Republican") factcheck.org is now openly calling McCain dishonest.

Check out their latest entry here.

Less Than Honest

With its latest ad, released Sept. 10, the McCain-Palin campaign has altered our message in a fashion we consider less than honest. The ad strives to convey the message that FactCheck.org said "completely false" attacks on Gov. Sarah Palin had come from Sen. Barack Obama. We said no such thing. We have yet to dispute any claim from the Obama campaign about Palin.

For those not familiar with factcheck.org speech, "less than honest" is a pretty stunning term for the site to use.  Normally, they stick to less charged words, such as "distorted the record," or "stretched the truth" or "contained some inaccuracies."  In fact, I couldn't find anywhere else on the site where anyone had ever been called dishonest before.

Just in case the preceding wasn't direct enough, factcheck.org clarifies specifically:

We don't object to people reprinting our articles. In fact, our copyright policy encourages it. But we've also asked that "the editorial integrity of the article be preserved" and told those who use our items that "you should not edit the original in such a way as to alter the message."

I think this is a big moment and evidence that the very important "McCain lies" meme is catching and needs to be pushed further.  NOT ONLY does the man lie, but he E VEN lies about the content of FACTCHECK.ORG.

Factcheck.org has enormous (and deserved) credibility with the average voter.  They're scrupulous almost to the point of absurdity sometimes, and people know it.  People believe factcheck.org.  And factcheck.org says that McCain "less than honest."

We need to get the message out about this and in a big way. McCain lies.  McCain not only lies about the facts, but he also lies about support for his interpretation of the facts.  He lies about anything and everything, all the time.  McCain lies.

Repeat after me:

McCAIN LIES!
